Using DATEV Safely
Targeted learning and a deeper understanding of accounting practice.
03

Gaining confidence in day-to-day practice.

The solution

To suit the level of your new specialist

We take into account your existing accounting experience, the software you currently use, your language skills and the tasks carried out at your practice. This means the training focuses on the areas where you have gaps in your knowledge that are actually relevant to day-to-day work with DATEV.
01 · Sorting

Understanding prior knowledge

During the site interview, we’ll discuss your experience, your role and the best way for you to get started.
02 · Planning

Identify key areas

A personalised learning plan combines the online course with targeted specialist sessions.
03 · Application

Working more safely

The employee practises using DATEV, checks their own results and learns to identify outstanding cases.
Language support right from the start:
The course offers German, English and Russian audio tracks, as well as German, English or Russian subtitles. Personal support can be provided in German, English or Russian.
Typical situations

Who is this training programme intended for?

For accounting staff who wish to apply their existing knowledge to working with DATEV and to the day-to-day financial accounting of a German tax consultancy.

Change of software

Experienced professionals are familiar with bookkeeping, but have previously worked with a different programme.

Returning to work

The technical foundations are in place; processes and software are to be updated.

International skilled workers

I have accounting experience. Additional language support makes the transition easier.

Suitable candidates from other fields

If you have the relevant prior knowledge, a structured introduction to DATEV and practical work can be a good idea.
The start

First work out where you are, then start learning.

An interview lasting around 30 minutes will reveal what the candidate is already capable of, which software they are familiar with, and what tasks they are expected to carry out at your law firm. If necessary, a placement test will supplement this assessment.
Building on this, a personalised learning plan is drawn up. Experienced accountants do not need to go over familiar basics unnecessarily.

Let’s make that clear from the outset

  • Work experience and existing knowledge of bookkeeping
  • Previous software and DATEV experience
  • Planned tasks at the law firm
  • Language support
  • Appropriate provision and key learning areas
Two approaches to induction

Select the appropriate scope of practice.

Both programmes include a personalised learning plan and one-to-one consultations. The practical training complements the independent work on a realistic practice client case.

Practical training

Twelve accounting periods. A common thread running through day-to-day bookkeeping.

During the online work placement, participants continue to manage the accounts of a realistic practice client using existing data. They practise typical procedures, carrying out analyses and checking their own work.

Read existing data

The opening balance and the previous period serve as a guide before new business transactions are processed.

Identifying abnormalities

Discrepancies and unresolved issues are brought to light, rather than simply being carried forward.

Checking your own work

Entries and reports are systematically checked for plausibility. Errors should be detected, where possible, before they are processed internally.
Personal contact

Ralf Hundertmark is overseeing the training programme.

Ralf Hundertmark has been teaching bookkeeping, accounting and DATEV for many years. As a former managing director of a tax consultancy firm, he is also familiar with the practical requirements of running such a firm.
The package includes a 30-minute assessment and planning meeting, a personalised learning plan, two specialist sessions of approximately 30 minutes each, specialist support, a final feedback session and a brief written evaluation for the law firm. Further appointments can be arranged separately.

Feedback to the law firm

A factual overview of the qualification process.

At the end, you will receive brief professional feedback. Participants are informed in advance which details will be shared. This provides you with a basis for planning their further induction.
The evaluation is not a staff appraisal. The work placement certificate issued as part of the practical training programme is a separate certificate of completion for the participant.

Scope of the evaluation

  • Modules completed
  • Key subject areas
  • Schedule for the practical component, if booked
  • Further induction may be required, if necessary

Frequently Asked Questions

What law firms want to know in advance.

Does the employee already need to be proficient in bookkeeping?

Prior knowledge is important. During the initial consultation, we will assess whether the DATEV course is sufficient or whether more practical training would be beneficial for the tasks you plan to undertake. If necessary, a placement test can help.

How do the two offers differ?

The DATEV qualification programme focuses on the course, software application and personal support. The practical qualification component involves an online work placement with a realistic client over twelve accounting periods.

How much personalised support is included?

The programme includes an initial consultation lasting around 30 minutes, a personalised learning plan, two subject-specific sessions of around 30 minutes each, subject-specific support throughout the training, as well as final feedback and an employer evaluation. Further appointments can be arranged separately.

Which languages are available?

The course offers German, English and Russian audio tracks, as well as German, English or Russian subtitles. Personal support can be provided in German, English or Russian.

What certificate will the participant receive?

A course certificate is included in both programmes. Take a look at the Sample certificate of attendance for the DATEV course . For the practical qualification, an internship reference is also required; you can find it here Sample internship certificate. This is to be distinguished from an external DATEV audit.

What does the law firm find out in the end?

A brief, objective feedback on the modules completed, key areas of focus and, where applicable, any further training required. The participant will be informed of the content of the feedback.
